Run Reigate is a very popular community event in Priory Park, Reigate. You can help us by joining our team at Run Reigate, either as a runner or a volunteer.
For runners, there are runs at several distances and for all ages – from the 1.1 mile Kids races to the 5k,10 k and the challenging half marathon. This event suits all runners – whether achieving their first 5k, or beating their personal best time. Our motto is ANY AGE, ANY DISTANCE, ANY TIME!!
For volunteers we will be at the event all day with our red gazebo, promoting Renewed Hope, letting people know what we do and selling raffle tickets. And of course enjoying the food, drink and other activities

POST RUN UPDATE!
Sunday was a lovely day for Run Reigate, and Team Renewed Hope did us proud! Anri, Terry, Mark, Lee, Cath , Sarah – and not forgetting Theo- all put their best foot forward and completed the distance in fine form. Please scroll through this year’s photos above.

Run Reigate was the launch of our fundraising campaign to fund an additional support worker post at Renewed Hope. Our overall target is £15,000, and this weekend has been a great start. So far with sponsorship, raffle ticket sales and donations we have raised over £3,000. More donations and sponsorship would be most welcome , and would directly help those who need it most.

In less than 2 weeks our brilliant Run Reigate runners will be at the start line in Priory Park . We are proud to have 12 runners, between them covering all the distances from the kids 1.2 mile to the Half Marathon.
They are all setting their own challenge to help Renewed Hope meets it’s challenge of helping Homeless and Vulnerable people in East Surrey.
Unfortunately the need is getting bigger every year, and over the last 12 months our volunteers welcomed 311 people through the doors of our Redhill Drop-in and offered 30 street homeless people a bed for the night over the winter months.
At least 173 of these guests were homeless and need our support to help cope with the challenges rough sleeping, and also to try and move off the streets.
We really need to increase our capacity and are fundraising for a second support worker post.
Our work is only possible because of the support from the local community – from individuals and community organisations like yourselves.

Renewed Hope is a local charity based in Redhill, helping homeless , isolated vulnerable men and women. In the last year our volunteers have run 310 sessions at our drop in and 85 at Winter Night Shelter. They have welcomed over 300 individuals, 170 of whom were homeless.
Renewed Hope are proud to announce that this year we are an official charity partners of Run Reigate. On Sunday 21st September we will cheer off runners wearing our signature red tops, facing the running challenge they have set themselves, and raising money for Renewed Hope.
There are runs at for all ages – 1.1 mile Kids races for 4 yrs and above, and young person/ adult races at 5k, 10k and half marathon distances. Join as an individual, a family or a group.
Run Reigate is renowned for it’s inclusive, friendly atmosphere , so it is an ideal event for people who haven’t run before. Last year a team from The Oracle Group in Epsom joined Team Renewed Hope, several of them having only started running in the weeks before. They all completed the 5k !
If you join our team, we can offer you reduced registration fees, access to training plans, and of course a free Renewed Hope Running Shirt.
We just ask that you help us by spreading the word , telling your friends and family who we are and what we do , and by fundraising through getting sponsorship, or through any other ideas you have. The money you raise at Run Reigate directly helps our work in supporting the men and women who come to our Drop-in, or who use the Winter Night Shelter.

Our Winter Night Shelter came to an end a couple of weeks ago after nearly 3 months. Just over 20 people came through the doors over that time staying at various church halls across the local area.
The shelter provided a safe place of community for people who would have otherwise been out on the streets. More than 200 volunteers helped by cooking meals, welcoming them, playing cards, staying awake overnight and much more.
Many of the guests found accommodation while being on shelter, others didn’t have somewhere be the time we closed. However, we are pleased to share many of them are now in places they can finally call home.
We can’t do any of this without you!

ndividuals, businesses, schools, churches and the councils have donated money or essential items to fund all the vital items we need to run the project. Thank you from the guests and from all of us at Renewed Hope to everyone who has made it possible.
The Winter Night Shelter will be open again in December with preparations starting in the Autumn, but in the meantime, it’s business as usual at our Drop-In daytime support at Shrewsbury Chapel. In the past 6 months we have served nearly 3,000 meals to 206 people there. Roughly half of those people were homeless. We’ll also be running our usual street collections and taking part in community events in the coming months.

Volunteers attended a reception for nominee groups held at Loseley Park in July 2024. HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr Michael More-Molyneux, Deputy Lieutenants Peter Lee and High Sheriff His Honour Christopher Critchlow, along with some of our volunteers – Kathryn, Kim, Elizabeth, Terry, Zoe and Sam.
Renewed Hope has been awarded the prestigious Kings Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) for its work with the homeless and vulnerable in the East Surrey area.
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK. The Award seeks to recognise groups that are volunteer driven, making an outstanding impact in their local community, and when viewed across the UK, exceptional at a national level. The Award is equivalent to an MBE and is awarded for life.
The charity has been awarded because all our services are run almost entirely run by volunteers with more than 200 helpers giving their time at the charity’s Drop-In day centre supported by only 4 members of staff.
As the charity approaches its busiest season, the news couldn’t have come at a more significant time.Chair of Trustees Sam Ferrar said: “We are very honoured to receive this award. We could not run any of projects without our volunteers, something we are very proud of.
“Our services work on the principle that the unjudging acceptance of volunteers as they welcome isolated and vulnerable guests is essential in breaking down barriers.
“There is something very special when people give up their precious time to help those in most need and we have seen lives transformed by the unique contribution volunteers bring.
“Our year-round Drop-In day centre is run by over 200 volunteers serving hot meals and providing a non-judgmental welcome to the most vulnerable.
“Winter Night Shelter, which runs in church halls December to March, is wholly run by volunteers, with each venue being led by a designated coordinator. Each night the volunteers welcome and register 10 guests, prepare and serve a hot meal, stay with guests overnight and prepare breakfast the next morning.
“Without our volunteers we simply wouldn’t be able to run these most needed services for the local community.”The charity’s work began in 2011 when a group of church leaders saw the need to run a winter night shelter. It was run by volunteers from the very beginning and continues to this day.
Renewed Hope meets the physical and emotional needs of local homeless, vulnerable and isolated guests by providing practical and emotional support.
Partnership working is a key strength of the charity’s work.Operations Manager Andrew Tyers added: “We reduce the amount of time our guests spend homeless by focusing on their individual needs and cooperating with local services. We connect them to homelessness officers, outreach teams, domestic violence workers, substance abuse teams and employment and training services.
“Renewed Hope also reduces the negative impact of homelessness on our guests through adopting a non-judgemental approach and creating a safe and welcoming environment.

On top of this, all trustees are local volunteers taking on governance responsibilities and setting the strategic direction of the charity. Fundraising and publicity is also done by volunteers.
Drop-In is opened by teams of volunteers, six days a week. They prepare and serve food, make cups of tea and coffee and attend to guests’ needs or simply engage in conversation with them. The volunteers are backed up by the charity’s support worker.The four residents at Hope House are each offered a volunteer mentor to give a different sort of support to that provided by the support worker. Volunteers are also involved in fundraising and publicity events.
The Kings Award for Volunteering (KAVS) was created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and was previously known as The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) . Each year, outstanding examples of the work of volunteer led organisations are celebrated through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS). Equivalent to an MBE, KAVS is the highest Award given to local voluntary groups in the UK, and they are awarded for life.
Renewed Hope has been through a long assessment process to achieve the award.
A year ago, Renewed Hope was invited to submit a nomination for KAVS by Peter Lee – one of the Deputy Lieutenants of Surrey. In January we had an assessment visit from representatives of the Surrey Lieutenancy, and we were delighted when we heard our nomination had been put forward to the National Assessment Committee. This committee is responsible for deciding on a shortlist which is then sent for Royal Approval. The announcement of the awards will be on 14th November – His Majesty’s the King’s birthday.

Several of our team are running their first race – having worked up from nothing to 5 k over the last few weeks. Some others are doing the 10k run and two are attempting the half marathon.
Please sponsor and encourage our runners : all the money they raise will directly help the homeless and vulnerable people who come to our Drop=in in Redhill. Last year 299 individuals were welcomed through our door. At least 163 of them were homeless.

On 23rd May, Cllr Eddy Humphreys was formally installed for his second year as Mayor of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.
Renewed Hope are delighted that he chose us as one of two Mayors charities for the forthcoming year. We have had the pleasure of meeting Councillor Humphreys and his wife Sarah on several occasions over the last year, and they have come in to our Drop-In in Redhill to see for themselves what we are doing.
We are also very pleased that Cllr Sue Sinden is now Deputy Mayor. She has been a supporter of Renewed Hope for a long time.
We very much look forward to working with Cllr Eddy Humphreys over the next year to let more people know about the issues of homelessness and need in Redhill, Reigate and Banstead, and how they can help.
