Renewed Hope has three main projects:
We are proud to partner with many organisations to deliver our service. Alliance Better Care come in to run regular health clinics and we have been visited by the Hepetitis C Trust bus scanning guests for the disease.
We also rent out the chapel to support groups including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and UK Smart Recovery.
Our daytime Drop-In runs is open to everyone. It particularly attracts lonely, homeless or unemployed people struggling with a range of issues. They all need a friendly face and a listening ear. It provides them with a non-judgmental environment and a community in which they can be themselves. Services we offer include:
The four men who live there receive support from our support worker and individual volunteer mentors. They are referred to us by the council because they have been identified as needing our support to get ready for permanent accommodation. We are also able to help them work on their individual challenges, such as mental illness, maintaining a healthy diet, getting back into work, budgeting by working with other partner agencies.
We run a Winter Night Shelter from mod December to early March hosted by various churches across the Reigate & Banstead area.
The Night Shelter provides a safe and welcoming space for rough sleepers to stay for as long as they need a bed. With the help and dedication of a large team of trained volunteers, they enjoy a hot evening meal, good company in a non-judgemental environment and a lovely breakfast the following morning. Some venues also offer shower facilities.
The pandemic forced a national rethink in the way charities, councils and the Government support rough sleepers to achieve the best outcomes for them. The emphasis became on single-room accommodation, however through the running of our year-round Drop-In day centre, we continued to see a need for a shelter. We are supported Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Tandridge District Council and all referrals come via them.
Unfortunately, this service cannot run all year round. If you are sleeping rough or know someone who is, and needs help, please report the sleeping location to Streetlink and a member of the East Surrey Outreach Service (eSOS) will come and get them connected with the relevant council. You can also call the team on 07436 273 614.
