Renewed Hope At Run Reigate – Your help is needed!!

Renewed hope are delighted to be part of Run Reigate again this year. We are slightly older than Run Reigate, as we started in 2011 in Redhill, and have been offering daily help to homeless and vulnerable people through our drop in centre and winter night shelters ever since. As a local community based organization, we are very pleased to be part of this community celebration.

On 17th September, as well as cheering on our ”Team Renewed Hope”  runners , we will be in the race village all day so look out for our red gazebo and come and say hello.

Can You Help?

We are also  looking for people to join our team for Run Reigate – either as runners (our motto – any distance, any age, any time), or as volunteers for our stand in the race village and the car park in the morning.

  • For the runners, we can offer a discounted entry and a free Renewed Hope running shirt. All we ask is that you raise at least £100 towards our fundraising target for this event.
  • We need volunteers first thing in the morning to help us run a car park, and throughout the day to join our team chatting to people and collecting donations in the race village.

Your support would help  ensure that homeless and vulnerable people have somewhere to go throughout the year for a warm welcome, a hot meal and one to one support.

To join “Team Renewed Hope” on 17th September, or to find out more, please phone (01737 886997) ,  e-mail andrew@renewedhope.org.uk.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Dash to the Med 2 – MISSION COMPLETE!

Renewed Hope are delighted to be one of the 4 chosen charities for the second “Dash to the Med”.   Their aim was to raise over £75,000 for charity by driving a fleet of open top cars from Reigate to the Mediterranean.
We are delighted to report they were successful with both challenges!
13 cars (26 drivers) departed from Old Reigatians Rugby Club at 5:00 pm on Wednesday 7th June. 13 cars (26 drivers) arrived in Antibes on Saturday afternoon, having survived sun and rain (all with the roofs down), and traversed the french alps in their sub-£1000 cars.

They also met their fundraising target – currently the donation total stands at £78,500 . This will be split between the 4 charities – Renewed Hope, East Surrey Domestic Abuse, My Name’5 Doddies (Fighting Motor Neurone Disease) and Reigate Grammar school foundation.

The fundraising page is still open –  just follow this link  SPONSOR DASH TO THE MED HERE! , or use this  QR code.
Congratulation to everyone involved in this fabulous challenge .

Tribute to Renewed Hope founder Ian Buckland

Everyone at Renewed Hope would like to pay tribute to one of our founders, Ian Buckland, who has sadly died.

Nearly 15 years ago, Ian was one of the Redhill Street Pastors who saw a need for a winter night shelter during his time at the Salvation Army in the town.

Hope 2540 was born and the night shelter started in the winter of 2011/12. In its first year, it ran for just 6 weeks in a handful of venues, serving homeless people from the Reigate and Banstead Borough to begin with.

Volunteers and guests from the early years will remember him for his gregarious personality, firm but kind and with an unwavering passion for helping homeless people.

He was visionary and without him Renewed Hope and the East Surrey Winter Night Shelter would not exist. You would see him on shift, driving minibuses, training volunteers – anything to keep the shelter running.

Over the years, the shelter grew to run for 15 weeks. It was hosted by 16 churches in 2019/20, supporting people from the Tandridge District as well as Reigate and Banstead Borough. He may have been proud to learn it’s making a return next winter after a three-year break caused by Covid.

Everyone at Renewed Hope wishes his family well and they are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

He is remembered with affection.

Dash to the Med 2 : Raising Money for Renewed Hope

Renewed Hope are delighted to be one of the 4 chosen charities for the second “Dash to the Med”.   Their aim is to raise over £75,000 for charity by driving a fleet of open top cars from Reigate to the Mediterranean.  This is split between Renewed Hope, My Name’5 Doddie, Royal Grammar School Foundation and ESDAS.

The organisers explain here ;

7 years ago, myself and another 31 individuals ventured, in cars costing no more than £500, a 3 day journey to the south of France, covering nearly 1400km. God, we had some laughs…. we collectively raised over £80,000 for our 4 dedicated charities…..
We’re back….. on the 7th June 2023, 30 of us will leave Old Reigatians rugby club to make a very similar journey. We have a few new faces but our aim remains as it was before…. to RAISE AS MUCH MONEY as we can. Each car has to cost no more than £999, must be a convertible and will complete the entire journey al fresco – no rooves allowed!
They depart from Old Reigatian Rugby Club on June 7th – come along and wave them off at 17:00. We are car number 66 – the number of homeless people we helped last year.

Can You Help With Our Street Collections in 2023?

In 2022  Renewed Hope had great success in raising our profile in Reigate and Redhill, and in getting support from people across our community.

We are building on this in 2023 , with a calendar of different events, including 4 street collections . Can you help with any of these ?

    • Friday 19th May : REIGATE
    • Saturday 8th July : OXTED
    • Saturday 2nd December : REIGATE CHRISTMAS FAIR
    • Saturday 9th December : REDHILL (Choirs, Carols and Collection in the Belfry)

We need as many volunteers as possible throughout the day at all of these events , acting as ambassadors for Renewed Hope – engaging people , talking about Renewed Hope and inviting contributions and support.

If  you can help for an hour or two on any of these days, please let me know and I will book you in.

You will be joining a lovely team, and will really contribute by raising awareness about the issues of homelessness and isolation in Redhill, Reigate and East Surrey as well as raising much needed funds for our work.

If you can help, or want to find out more, just e-mail andrew@renewedhope.org.uk , or give me a ring on 01737 886997.

I look forward to hearing from you.
