After a turbulent few months for many, we are heading into a busy winter and expecting to be supporting many homeless people. Sadly, due to Coronavirus we will not be able do this in the usual way through the Winter Night Shelter.
We are still appealing for your help though!
We are going to be working closely with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to help people off the streets into private accommodation as well as running an extended daytime Drop-In.
Special Support volunteers
We are appealing for 10-20 special volunteers who will provide support to guests by taking them to accommodation and working closely with the staff team, to help them weigh up their options and sustain a tenancy. Training will be provided.
You will need a driving licence and the role will be subject to a DBS check as you will be spending time alone with a guest. If you’d be interested in this type of role, please get in touch on this email address or call us 01737 886997 for more information.
Extended Drop-In
We want to extend the hours of Drop-In at the chapel to offer a late breakfast, hot meal at lunch and a sandwich parcel to take away in late afternoon. This is all dependent on the number of volunteers we have as we will need two shifts working in bubbles, as currently happens.
The weekend sessions and foodbank will also continue throughout working with our partners to reach many needy families and individuals.
As we do every year, we would be grateful for any financial donations, gifts of food for both the Drop-In and Foodbank and good quality or new clothing (especially for men). Please contact us in advance for a list of our immediate needs.
Thank you for your ongoing support and prayers as always.
Best wishes
Anna, Yvonne and Mary-Anne

Got something to say?
Hi I have been making and selling face masks with a group of friends and we have raised £4000 for local charities. We are now looking for another local charity to support and thought that we would like to hope the homeless having given £2000 to Stripey Stork £1000 to Connies crusade snd £1000 to Age Concern Merstham We are keen to support a local charity as it is the local residents that are buying our face masks. Could you let me know if there is a local group we could support Many thanks Janet Aslett
Hi Janet
Well done with the masks – that is amazing and helps charitiess so much in these difficult times.
Renewed Hope is the East Surrey homeless charity. We provide practical solutions and emotional support for the homeless, isolated and vulnerable through our daily Drop-In.
We usually run a Winter Night Shelter but Covid has prevented this so we are extending our Drop-In hours. We want to offer a warm, safe space to anyone who needs it and offering a cup of team can sometimes be all that is needed to make a connection.
We have also set up a foodbank delivery service that is feeding some 50-60 households a week!
We hope you will consider us and do email me direct on fundraising@renewedhope.org.uk as I will be far quicker at replying to this email address.
Kind regards
Mary-Anne Parsons
Hi there
I would really like a list of items that are required at the moment. Food, clothing etc?
I’m very keen to help in any way that I can, but also very aware that things may not be operating as usual. We have a child At school so I’m conscious of being a link in the chain and whether that would allow me to help in person ?
Are you short of volunteers in terms of giving time too? Any evening volunteers needed?
If it’s not suitable to help in person I would like to help in other ways.
Many thanks
Katie
Hi Katie
Sorry we didn’t get back to you sooner and thank you very much for your offer of help.
Regarding volunteering we are having to keep to ‘bubbles’ so we are not able to use as many volunteers as usual however please do register on our website Volunteer page as then you will get mailers with requests for volunteers – I think we are going to need some help here on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!
Regarding items needed – we always need coffee, sugar, biscuits & chocolate bars, crisps and custard.
If you can give anything please bring it to Shrewsbury Chapel, Shrewsbury Road Redhill RH1 6BH. If you come outside of Drop-In hours 11am to 2pm, just ring on the doorbell.
Thank you for thinking of Renewed Hope
Mary-Anne
