Volunteering at Renewed Hope

When the charity started 13 years ago it was set up and run by the volunteers who identified the need for services for homeless people in Redhill and Reigate . In the intervening years more and more  people in the local community offered their services. Now every weekday throughout the year our guests to Drop-in are welcomed by a team of 6 volunteers, and every night from Mid-December to Mid-March  a team of 16 volunteers are needed to set up and run the Winter Night Shelter. In the last 12 months over 300 people volunteered for one or more session.

As well as roles welcoming guests and helping in the kitchens at Drop-in and Winter night shelter we also have volunteering roles helping with fundraising and promotion of the organisation.

Specialist Fundraising Volunteer Role : Grant Applications

We have just created a new volunteer role to help with Grant Applications. In our 2025/26 financial year over £50,000 of our income was from grants – from a mixture of Charitable Trusts, Business and Legacy Foundations and local government funding opportunities.

The person taking this on would be part of our fundraising committee, and work closely both with the chair of that committee (Hugh Serjeant) and with the Operations Manager (Andrew Tyers) .

Having this role is a new idea for us, and we are keen to see how it can best work, and also to explore how AI can be used to improve our efficiency and effectiveness in generating income from these sources.

What we’re looking for:
• Grant or bid-writing experience, ideally, or a willingness to learn
• Confidence with Microsoft 365 and an interest in AI tools
• Around 2–3 days a month, flexible and hybrid (Redhill)
• Attendance at our committee meeting every two months, in person or online

If you are new to grant writing, don’t worry –  you’ll be supported by Hugh Serjeant and the rest of the  Fundraising Committee.

If this is of interest and you wish to discuss further please contact Hugh or Andrew directly: andrew@renewedhope.org.uk
